Devotion Questions & Prayer

Day of Pentecost, Year A

Scriptures: Psalm 104:24-34, 35b; John 20:19-23; Acts 2:1-21; 1 Corinthians 12:3b-13

Key verse: “To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.” (1 Corinthians 12:7)

Questions to ponder:

1. Can you think of a time when a cause for common good did not benefit you personally but you cheered on and were grateful for the result?

2. In your view of the current circumstances in your life, what cause for common good is actively fostering or encouraging forgiveness of sins?

3. What would you do as a person of faith to help cultivate a culture in a positive and encouraging way that generates and sustains what you mentioned in your answer to #2? What might be the first step you would take to lead that movement and have impact on the common good?

Prayer: God of all, grant us wisdom as you did for King Solomon to distinguish what pleases you and what dishonors you. May you activate the gifts of the Spirit that are lacking in our midst and strengthen the gifts of the Spirit that benefit not just for our own circles. And may each movement reveal your saving grace as you have accomplished through the power of cross for the common good. Amen.
