Devotion Questions & Prayer

The 5th Easter, Year A

Scriptures: Psalm 31:1-5, 15-16; John 14:1-14; Acts 7:55-60; 1 Peter 2:2-10

Key verse: “If in my name you ask me for anything, I will do it.” (John 14:14)

Questions to ponder:

1. Was there a time when you disregarded a piece of good advice out of anger, frustration, ego, or pride? How did you come to the realization that you had missed or disregarded it while losing yourself?

2. How does Stephen’s final remark in Acts 7:60, “Lord, do not hold this sin against them.” speak to you? How different or similar is it to the values and purposes that guide your daily life?

3. In which way would you bear witness to the risen Christ—the way, the truth, the life? What might be a reachable goal you want to set to be more Christlike?

Prayer: God of love and forgiveness, may we not shame or inflict guilt to others as we do to ourselves while not knowing how to reconcile with wrongdoers. Thank you, O God, for making us a new creation through your resurrection, reconciling us to you in Christ, and giving us enough faith stories recorded in the Bible to admonish all we say and do so that we may resemble your way, your truth, your life. Amen.
