2nd Sunday after Epiphany, Year B
Scriptures:
1 Samuel 3:1-10 [11-20] The calling of Samuel
Psalm 139:1-6, 13-18 You have searched me out and known me. (Ps. 139:1)
1 Corinthians 6:12-20 Glorify God in your body
John 1:43-51 The calling of the first disciples
Key verse: Come to meet God
“Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, which you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you were bought with a price; therefore, glorify God in your body.” (1 Corinthians 6:12-20)
Questions to ponder:
1. What’s your understanding of the price that God paid to save humanity for all creation?
2. Since our body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within us, how does that change your ways of caring and loving yourself and others in honoring God?
3. God is omnipresent (is ever-present in our lives), omnipotent (can do everything out of love for us), and omniscient (knows everything about us). What is it like to meet God and build a relationship with God in our daily life?
Prayer: Merciful and generous God, thank you for creating us, loving us, and redeeming us whenever we lose the sight of your image in ourselves and in each other. Because of the birth, the life, the death, and the resurrection of Jesus, in whom we finally get a glimpse of your glory. Thank you to Jesus, your only Son, who comes to heal our brokenness. May we humbly present our body, all that we are and have, to you, for the sake of your kingdom. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
