The 14th Sunday after Pentecost, Year A
Scriptures: Jeremiah 15:15-21; Psalm 26:1-8; Matthew 16:21-28; Romans 12:9-21.
Key verse: “Therefore thus says the Lord: If you turn back, I will take you back, and you shall stand before me. If you utter what is precious, and not what is worthless, you shall serve as my mouth. It is they who will turn to you, not you who will turn to them.” Jeremiah 15:19.
Questions to ponder:
1. There are times when losing is not diminishing or failure. What values could help you see the meaning and purpose in such a situation?
2. How would you reframe your faith story at times when you need to let go of certain valuable(s) to you to allow the faith values to guide you and to be holy and whole in Christ (1 Thessalonians 5:23)?
3. What steps might you take to inspire/persuade others to take actions that remove/overcome obstacles from those setting their mind on human things in order to focus on God’s divine salvation?
Prayer: God of hope and life, you see each path that we take, know each decision we make, and hear every thought that linger in our mind and heart. On the path to your salvation through Jesus, nudge us when we are unwilling or unable to see any stumbling blocks, and hold us up when we are weary and can’t do on our own, direct our eyes to face you along for you are our hope and life. Amen.
