The 11th Sunday after Pentecost, Year A

Scriptures: 1 Kings 19:9-18; Psalm 85:8-13; Matthew 14:22-33; Romans 10:5-15.

Key verse: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!” Romans 10:15b

Questions to ponder:

1. Was there a time when you cried out from a heart of fear, resentment, brokenness, exhaustion, or helplessness? What was the thought that suffocated you the most?

2. What experiences in life led you to discover or realize that your whole life is meaningful and purposeful?

3. God cares and calls those with weary souls to God-self. As you look back on your life journey and move forward by God’s grace through faith, how might you be a witness to Christ and pray to God?

Prayer: God of life and God of peace, you hear us when we cry out from a heart of resentment, fear, brokenness, exhaustion, or helplessness. In your grace, move us to incline our ears to hear and receive your good news. We give you thanks for always walking towards us and waiting to hold our hands even in the midst of our doubt and insecurity. May we recognize your voice when you call us and share your presence with others, which is the Good News. Amen.
