Devotion Questions & Prayer

yikigai2021

The 9th Sunday after Pentecost, Year A

Scriptures: 1 Kings 3:5-12; Psalm 119:129-136; Matthew 13:31-33, 44-52; Romans 8:26-39.

Key verse: “And your servant is in the midst of the people whom you have chosen, a great people, so numerous they cannot be numbered or counted.” 1 Kings 3:8

Questions to ponder:

1. Jesus says that God’s kingdom is like a mustard seed, yeast, hidden treasure, fine pearls, or a net. Which images Jesus used may describe the way in which God’s kingdom is unfolding in your community as a foretaste of God’s kingdom?

2. What might your prayer be to God while nurturing, growing, discipling, and apprenticing God’s chosen people for the sake of God’s kingdom?

3. How has the old treasure in your faith community either shed light on the new treasures or re-direct you to discover the new treasures?

Prayer: God of the past, present, and future, thank you for entrusting faith leaders to serve your chosen people, for listening to their prayers for the sake of your kingdom, for being gracious to all who yearn for your merciful love that no one can take away and nothing can nullify its real presence and power in our lives. Amen.
