Devotion Questions & Prayer

The 5th Sunday after Pentecost, Year A

Scriptures: Jeremiah 28:5-9; Psalm 89:1-4, 15-18; Matthew 10:40-42; Romans 6:12-23.

Key verse: "So now present your members as slaves to righteousness for sanctification." (Romans 6:19b)

Questions to ponder:

1. Since being righteous is having a right relationship by grace through faith with God, and sanctification is a process of becoming righteous, how might you explain the word ‘slaves’ in Romans 6:19?

2. When being wronged by our siblings in Christ, namely, Christians, how should we pray for them, ourselves, and our life together for understanding, healing, and restoration?

3. Based on your answer to the 2nd question, what might we lose through the process of rebuilding and nurturing any broken relationships? What might we gain?

Prayer: God of our faith and grace, whenever we think of others as less and unworthy, and whenever we think of ourselves as more and better, may Jesus’ walk to the cross and pain humble and wake us up. May Jesus’s death rekindle the hope in our life for understanding, healing, and restoration, and may the living power from Jesus’ resurrection sustain us and give us courage to be the catalysts of your Good News. Amen.
