Questions to ponder:
1. Could you recall a time when you sacrificed for your loved one or someone you know who did it for you? What aspects of your experience would encourage you to do it again or hold you back from sacrifice?
2. What might be the reason Jesus desires mercy not sacrifice in the context of Matthew 9:9-13 and 18-26?
3.) How do you correlate the actions of mercy and sacrifice with the righteous and sinners in Matthews 9:13? Would you be able to identify any examples in our society and how would you explain it?
Prayer: Merciful God, by joining the prayers of all believers, we give you thanks for holding us up while falling, cleansing our souls while being smeared by sins, empowering us while facing fear and doubt, and using us as your conduits to show your mercy as you have shown us. Amen.
