The 7th Sunday after Pentecost, Year A

Scriptures: Isaiah 55:10-13; Psalm 65:[1-8] 9-13; Matthew 13:1-9; 18-23 Romans 8:1-11.

Key verse:But as for what was sown on good soil, this is the one who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and yields, in one case a hundredfold, in another sixty, and in another thirty.” Matthew 13:23

Notes: There are three beliefs/articles in the Apostles’ Creed: I believe in God, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Each belief/article focuses on each person of the Trinity.

The 3rd belief/article: I believe in the Holy Spirit,

the holy catholic/universal church,

the communion of saints,

the forgiveness of sins,

the resurrection of the body,

and the life everlasting. Amen.

Questions to ponder:

1. What are your understanding and application of the 3rd belief/article stated in the Apostles’ Creed?

2. What challenges may your faith community or any faith groups that you know experience in striving to manifest a life of the communion of saints and the forgiveness of sins stated in the Apostles’ Creed?

3. And what are some fruits that your faith community or any faith groups that you know bears and yields because of the 3rd belief/article stated in the Apostles' Creed?

Prayer: God of good soil, thank you for creating all things good and redeeming us for good. May our paths to your kingdom be filled with your grace and mercy, saturated with your peace and hope, and strengthened by your steadfast love and faithfulness. Amen.
