4th Sunday after Pentecost, Year A

Scriptures: Jeremiah 20:7-13; Psalm 69:7-10 [11-15] 16-18; Matthew 10:24-39; Romans 6:1b-11.

Key verse:Everyone therefore who acknowledges me before others, I also will acknowledge before my Father in heaven” (Matthew 10:32)

Questions to ponder:

1. How does the following statement speak to you, “Acknowledging People Helps Improve Relationships”? Could you share an experience that exemplifies that statement?

2. What feelings and thoughts discourage Christians from acknowledging Jesus? Why is it?

3. From your perspective, what might be a relational and life-giving way to acknowledge Jesus in our ministry of service to those in need, and in which way the Good News of living a new life by grace through faith is passed on?

Prayer: Omniscient God, you know our hearts and minds before we act and speak, may you give us wisdom and an empathetic spirit to practice your loving and forgiving presence so that whenever we acknowledge Jesus before others, new relationships are formed and nourished. Amen.
