3rd Sunday after Pentecost, Year A

Scriptures: Exodus 19:2-8a; Psalm 100; Matthew 9:35—10:8 [9-23]; Romans 5:1-8.

Key verse: “For it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.” (Matthew 10:20)

Questions to ponder:

1. In our lives, we often are led and lead others in either formal or informal ways. How does the following statement speak to you, “YOU CAN’T LEAD OTHERS UNTIL YOU LEARN TO LEAD YOURSELF”?

2. Was there anyone who led you in a way that inspired and encouraged you to be a leader, to inspire and encourage others to be leaders?

3. What kind of a leader is Jesus in the context (Mattew 10:5-6) of the passage as he prioritizes the lost in the house of Israel before reaching out non-Jews?

Prayer: God of unity and diversity, we give you thanks for trusting us to be in the role of co-creators, constantly creating something new and life-giving within and beyond the body of Christ. May we remember the word of life, Jesus, is always accessible for our use, to turn hostile to repentance, hate to regret, rejection to silence, doubt to awe, sorrow to joy, anxious to peace. May your peace humble us to be followers and leaders for your life saving mission. Amen.
